Scott's Post Show Blog 8/10/08

I'm realizing that every post-show blog I write can simply start "Wow."  This is especially true of tonight's show with Micah A. Hanks and Mobius of UFO Magazine.  Despite the fact that I've already written and re-written a book on true ghost stories and lived in the hyper-spiritual state of Hawaii for four or five years, it's been working on this show that has ended up really opening my mind to new theories and ideas, being able to feel spiritual energy, and all that other fun stuff.

While I do believe the psychic ability is like a muscle and the more you use it (or at least spend time studying it and exposing yourself to it), the more you'll end up experiencing.  Following this rationale, I should be seeing crazy stuff left and right, but no such luck.  Perhaps it's the constant struggle of getting paid and finding a new place to live that's closing me off to that world.

Regardless, I had no idea the movie titles "What the #$*! Do We (k)now!?" and "What the Bleep!?: Down the Rabbit Hole," would come up so often.  Turns out philosophy professors could probably teach an entire course using our show as the curriculum (that's actually a damn good idea and we better get a cut if that goes down).

The fascinating thing that Mobius and Micah brought up was that, according to witnesses UFOs tended to look like what cutting edge technology was at the time.  In the 1950's, they looked like they were constructed by Rosie the Riveter, while today they are more smooth and sculpted, as if engineered by the guys and gals over at Apple Computers.

And, of course, there were the UFOs of the '70s that featured swirling purples and greens and donned a disco ball hood ornament.  As I'm sure you've concluded, that was another attempt at a joke (I'll leave the comedy to Dobie).  In truth, the UFOs of the '70s were covered in strange lights.  One could easily draw similarities between that and the disco era (this is based on pictures found here: http://www.ufocasebook.com/bestufopictures3.html).

Micah and Mobius had a fascinating reason for this metamorphosis of the UFO, which I will leave it to them to explain - check out the archived show.  It's around the part where they talk about Capitan Cook.

I've got a theory of my own.  That's the great thing about this wonderful world of the paranormal: since there is little to no "proven" fact, everyone's theories are just as noteworthy and legitimate as the next person's.  So, my crazy idea is, as we know, our television signals are flying out into space to infinity.  If there is a way to travel the great distances that would be required of these extra terrestrial travelers, I'm sure they could figure out how to operate some rabbit-ear antennae.  So, right there they know what we're expecting.  It's a great 'chicken or the egg,' 'does life imitate art or art imitate life' question.  Maybe they're keeping up with our expectations as part of them gradually introducing themselves to us.  In either my or Mobius and Micah's guesses, it's all about us earthlings being 'ready' to see these objects in the sky.

On an even deeper and more removed from the science textbooks thought, I found it odd that when the guys explained 'Sky Fishing' they added that we should be thinking of UFOs as we were taking these pictures.  I'm guessing that has to do with perhaps tapping into our own inherit psychic abilities, though there are theories out there that we are capable of projecting our thoughts.  Hell, it's not that terribly uncommon to hear stories of "Soul Traveling" where an individual is thinking of a place so much, that a ghostly form of the individual actually travels to that place.  (For your reference, this was discussed a couple of months ago with Kathy Mahoney.)

In this crazy and fun world, really anything at all is possible.  I wouldn't be surprised if I've done some soul traveling back to Hawaii lately.  The islands have been on my mind and in my dreams a lot lately.  It'll just figure that my soul ends up with a better tan than me.

Next time, I'll try not to get so deep and actually save some space to talk about Mothership Capitan Dobie, the show in general and our web site, which is really starting to grow fast.  Before I go - what another great job Gary did with this week's Hall of Fame entries.  If you haven't heard them yet, click the link below.  The crazy guy from Zion, IL has to be my favorite so far.
