Scott's Post Show Blog 8/31/08

Tonight's show went off pretty much without a hitch.  There were still technical errors on my part that, unfortunately, you as listeners would notice.  Perfection is not the most attainable goal, but it's definitely something to shoot for.  More realistically, and I think this is attainable for the next show, I hope any errors are so minor that people wouldn't notice them unless they are looking for them.

I can't wait to continue building the show, bringing more production value to it with background music, pre-recorded or pre-written segments, sound bytes, etc.  Last night the "Family Guy" episode that lampoons talk radio and the fascination with sound effects was on:

Now, naturally I'm not looking for anything over the top like that.  We have such a great intro compliments of Lou and Dan that I'd like to be able to live up to it.

One aspect of our show that has lived up to the intro/closer and bumpers is our guests.  This week was no different.  However, at the last minute our guest for the second hour vanished.  I don't know if we've just been lucky (something Dobie and I are odds on favorites against) or if we've just been good producers, but we haven't had a cancellation and needed to fill time since we were doing this show in the afternoon.

Filling the second hour ended up being no problem thanks to two factors:  1) the three guys representing the Wisconsin Paranormal Investigators were great guests and were happy to stay long and 2) we actually had a listener phone call.

While I am opposed to the theory, which Dobie mentioned during the show, that "the masses are asses," it is always a gamble when taking a mystery call from the abyss that is our listening area.  In the end, for around 15 minutes, Kent ended up being a forth guest (with Dobie, myself, and the strangely silent Lara Shaffer).   He was welcome & I know I hope he becomes a regular and that future shows feature other listeners.   I remember getting occasional calls during the afternoon show, but our listening radius actually decreases at night (for some reason, the station decreases its wattage, meaning the signal doesn't travel as far.

I know Dobie, Lara and I are all looking forward to teaming up with the WPI team to have a "Cops"-like ridealong and comment and possibly create a bit of a distraction during a real paranormal investigation.   Pictures are posted from this week's show in our photo section.   You can also check out the guest links section to see the WPI's sites to see even more.   If anyone out there has a request for a show topic, we are open to everything.
